GOALKEEPER GLOVE CARE
Look after your goalkeeper gloves and they’ll look after you.
Your SCK goalkeeper gloves are built to give you the grip, control and confidence you need on the pitch. To get the best performance and longest possible life from your gloves, proper care starts from the moment they arrive.
Latex is a high-performance material and naturally requires care. Follow the guide below from purchase to pitch and back again.
1. WHEN YOUR GLOVES ARRIVE
Your new SCK goalkeeper gloves may have a protective plastic film covering the latex palms. This film protects the latex during manufacturing, packaging and delivery.
Do not rush to remove it as soon as your gloves arrive.
We recommend keeping the protective film in place until you are ready to prepare your gloves for use and you are 100% happy. We cannot accept a return if the protective plastic on the latex palm is removed.
2. PRE-WASH BEFORE YOUR FIRST USE
Your first wash is important.
Before wearing your new gloves for training or a match, pre-wash them first.
The manufacturing process can leave small amounts of preservatives or residue on the latex. Washing the gloves helps remove this and allows the latex to become activated, helping you get the best possible grip from the first use.
Use warm water, no hotter than 30°C, and gently wash the palms.
Once washed, allow the gloves to dry naturally.
If you want to make absolutely sure your gloves are ready for action, a second pre-wash is perfectly fine.
3. REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE FILM
Once you have completed your pre-wash, and the latex has softened, it is time to remove the protective film.
Gently peel the film away from the latex palm.
We recommend removing the film after the pre-wash rather than before. The latex will be softer and more flexible, making the film easier to remove.
Take your time and avoid aggressively picking or pulling at the latex.
Once the film is removed, your gloves are ready to be prepared for your hands.
4. GETTING YOUR PERFECT FIT
SCK slip-on goalkeeper gloves can feel tight when brand new. This is intentional and helps provide a secure, close-fitting feel once the glove has moulded to your hand.
After your pre-wash, put the gloves on and gently work the material by flexing your hands and fingers.
Allow the glove to naturally stretch and mould around your hand.
Never force your hand into the glove or aggressively pull on the fingers or latex.
With use, the material will become more comfortable and adapt to the shape of your hand.
5. BEFORE YOU STEP ON THE PITCH
Your gloves are now prepared and ready for training or match day.
Before playing, lightly dampen the latex palms with water.
Latex performs best when it is slightly damp. Keeping the palm hydrated helps maximise grip and can also help prevent the latex from becoming excessively dry during use.
6. DURING PLAY
Keep your palms damp.
During training or a match, occasionally add a small amount of water to the palms when needed.
You will often see professional goalkeepers adding water to their gloves during games for exactly this reason.
Latex is not designed to perform at its best when completely dry.
Keep the palms slightly damp, but avoid completely soaking the gloves.
Look after your latex.
Try to avoid unnecessary contact between the latex palms and abrasive surfaces.
Dragging your palms across the ground, repeatedly pushing yourself up using the gloves or unnecessary contact with hard surfaces can dramatically increase wear.
7. AFTER TRAINING OR A MATCH
Wash your gloves as soon as possible.
Once you've finished playing, don't throw your gloves into your kit bag and leave them until your next session.
Wash them as soon as possible after use.
Sweat, dirt, mud and bacteria can build up on the latex and affect both grip and durability if left sitting on the gloves.
8. CLEANING YOUR GLOVES
Rinse away the dirt
Start by rinsing the gloves under warm water, maximum 30°C.
Gently rub the latex with your fingers to remove loose dirt and debris.
Avoid aggressive scrubbing.
Soak the gloves
Fill a sink or basin with warm water and submerge the gloves.
Gently squeeze the gloves while they are underwater to help loosen dirt from the latex.
Use glove wash if available
For the best results, we recommend using a specialist goalkeeper glove cleaner.
Apply the cleaner to the latex and gently massage it into the palm using your thumbs and fingers.
Continue to rinse and gently massage the latex until the dirt has been removed.
Don't have specialist glove wash? Don't worry. Clean warm water is still better than leaving dirt and sweat on your gloves.
9. SQUEEZE — DON'T TWIST
Once your gloves are clean, remove them from the water and gently squeeze out the excess water.
Do not twist, wring or aggressively squeeze your gloves.
This can put unnecessary stress on the latex, stitching and glove construction.
Make sure you gently remove excess water from the fingertips as well.
10. DRY YOUR GLOVES NATURALLY
This is one of the most important parts of glove care.
Leave your gloves to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area.
Keep them away from:
Radiators
Heaters
Hairdryers
Direct sunlight
Other direct heat sources
Never use artificial heat to speed up the drying process.
Excessive heat and UV exposure can dry out the latex, causing it to become brittle, crack and lose grip.
11. AFTER YOUR GLOVES ARE DRY
Once your gloves are completely dry, you can apply a very small amount of Vaseline to the latex palm.
Gently spread a thin layer across the latex to help prevent it from becoming excessively dry and cracking.
Less is more. Do not apply large amounts, as excessive Vaseline can affect the feel and performance of the latex.
Store your gloves somewhere cool, dry and away from direct sunlight until your next session.
12. 3G & SOLID GROUND — TAKE EXTRA CARE
3G pitches and solid ground can be extremely harsh on goalkeeper glove latex.
Latex is designed for grip and performance, but it is also a material that naturally wears with use. Abrasive surfaces can dramatically accelerate this process.
Avoid unnecessary contact between your palms and the ground wherever possible.
Dragging your hands across the surface, crawling on your palms or repeatedly pushing yourself up from the ground can cause significant latex wear.
3G and solid ground can kill latex.
If you regularly play on 3G, artificial or particularly hard surfaces, expect your gloves to experience more wear than they would on a good-quality natural grass pitch.
13. REPEAT THE PROCESS
Every time you train or play:
PLAY → WASH → DRY → PROTECT → STORE → REPEAT
The better you look after your gloves, the longer they will maintain their grip, comfort and performance.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Goalkeeper gloves are performance equipment and latex will naturally wear with use.
The lifespan of your gloves depends on many factors, including playing surface, frequency of use, playing style and how well they are cared for.
South Coast Kits cannot be held responsible for premature latex wear or damage caused by incorrect care, misuse, excessive abrasion or playing on unsuitable surfaces.
In particular, 3G, artificial and solid surfaces can significantly reduce the lifespan of latex.
However, with the right care and attention, your SCK goalkeeper gloves can give you excellent grip and performance for a long time.

LATEX WEAR & GLOVE DURABILITY
GRIP COMES AT A COST
At South Coast Kits, we use high-quality latex palms selected for their excellent grip and performance in all conditions.
However, there is one thing every goalkeeper needs to understand about latex:
Latex is soft. Latex grips. Latex wears.
The same soft latex that gives you the grip you want when making a save is also naturally susceptible to wear and abrasion. This is completely normal and is something that cannot be avoided with a high-performance goalkeeper glove.
Your gloves can begin to show signs of wear from the very first session. This doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem with your gloves — sometimes it can be as simple as an unfortunate contact with the playing surface or a single hard save.
It can happen in your first game just as easily as your fifteenth.
WHAT AFFECTS LATEX WEAR?
Every goalkeeper is different, and the lifespan of a glove will vary depending on how and where it is used.
Factors that can affect latex wear include:
Goalkeeper age and experience
Playing and handling technique
Playing surface
Frequency of use
Number of saves and amount of ground contact
How the gloves were prepared before use
How well the gloves are cleaned and cared for
Weather and pitch conditions
The fit and cut of the glove
And sometimes… just plain luck!
A goalkeeper making 30 saves a game and regularly landing on their palms will naturally put more stress through the latex than a goalkeeper who has a quieter afternoon.
PLAYING SURFACE MATTERS
Goalkeeper gloves are primarily designed for use on natural grass surfaces, unless the glove has been specifically designed with a more durable artificial-turf palm.
3G & ASTRO TURF
Artificial surfaces such as 3G and astro turf are significantly more abrasive than natural grass.
This increased friction places much greater stress on the latex and can cause the palm to wear considerably faster.
If you regularly play on artificial surfaces, we strongly recommend taking extra care of your gloves and avoiding unnecessary contact between the latex and the ground.
3G and hard surfaces can dramatically reduce the lifespan of a latex palm.
There is no goalkeeper glove that can completely eliminate this wear while still providing the level of grip expected from a high-performance latex palm.
WHY IS MY LATEX ALREADY SHOWING WEAR?
Don't panic.
Some wear after use is completely normal.
Latex can show small marks, scuffs, cuts or areas of deterioration very quickly, particularly after contact with the ground.
This does not automatically mean your gloves are no longer performing.
Our gloves feature a 4mm latex palm, giving you substantial material designed to continue providing grip and performance as the palm naturally wears.
With proper care, your gloves can continue to perform throughout their usable life.
GLOVE CUT & LATEX WEAR
The construction and fit of your goalkeeper glove can also influence where and how quickly wear appears.
NEGATIVE CUT
Negative Cut gloves offer an extremely close, natural fit.
The tighter fit provides excellent ball feel and a more direct connection between your hand and the glove.
However, the tighter construction and additional stress around the fingers, thumbs and stitched areas can mean that wear may become visible sooner in these areas.
REDUCED DURABILITY. INCREASED FEEL.
This is the trade-off with a tighter glove cut.
You get:
More natural feel + closer fit + excellent control
But the glove can experience:
More stress + increased wear in high-pressure areas
This is normal for the construction and not necessarily a fault with the glove.
SLIM & OTHER TIGHT-FITTING CUTS
Our tighter-fitting glove designs can experience similar wear patterns because of the increased tension placed on the material and stitching.
In comparison, more traditional cuts such as Roll Finger designs generally provide a slightly more relaxed construction, which can reduce stress in certain areas.
Every glove cut has its own advantages, and the choice ultimately comes down to the fit, feel and performance you prefer.
WATCH THE HIGH-STRESS AREAS
The fingers, thumbs, seams and areas around the stitching can experience significant stress during training and matches.
Latex can also be damaged through everyday handling.
For example, excessive contact with:
Velcro closures
Socks or clothing
Fingernails
Ground surfaces
Goalposts
Boots or studs
Other abrasive materials
can cause unnecessary wear to the latex.
TAKE CARE WHEN PUTTING YOUR GLOVES ON
Never pull aggressively on the fingers or latex when putting your gloves on.
Use the glove's wrist opening and carefully work the glove onto your hand.
When removing your gloves, avoid pulling them off by the fingers.
A little care can make a big difference to the lifespan of your gloves.
TECHNIQUE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Younger or less experienced goalkeepers may notice faster latex deterioration, particularly if they are frequently landing on their palms, dragging their hands across the ground or using their gloves to push themselves back up.
As technique develops, goalkeepers generally become more efficient with their movement and landing technique, which can help reduce unnecessary contact and abrasion.
Better technique + better glove care = longer glove life.
LATEX WEAR IS NOT A DEFECT
We want you to understand exactly what to expect from your goalkeeper gloves.
Latex wear is normal.
The palm is designed to provide exceptional grip, and because the material is soft enough to create that grip, it will naturally deteriorate with use.
Signs of wear can appear during the very first session and will vary significantly from goalkeeper to goalkeeper.
The important thing is that wear does not necessarily mean your gloves have stopped performing.
LOOK AFTER YOUR GLOVES
The better you care for your goalkeeper gloves, the more life you are likely to get from them.
Always:
Pre-wash before first use.
Keep the latex slightly damp during play.
Wash your gloves after every session.
Dry them naturally.
Keep them away from direct heat and sunlight.
Avoid unnecessary contact with abrasive surfaces.
Take extra care on 3G and hard surfaces.
Put your gloves on and remove them carefully.

South Coast Kits GK — SCK GK — was born from experience on the gloves-on, boots-on ground.
Our founder, Harry, knows first-hand what it’s like to be a goalkeeper. As a semi-professional keeper, he experienced the frustration of spending a small fortune on goalkeeper gloves that looked great on paper but didn't always deliver where it mattered — on the pitch.
That frustration became an idea.
And that idea became South Coast Kits GK.
SCK GK was created with a simple goal: to produce high-quality, performance-driven goalkeeper gloves that are accessible, exciting and built for keepers at every level of the game.
We don't believe you should have to spend a fortune to feel confident in your gloves.

REFUNDS & RETURNS
At South Coast Kits, we want you to be completely happy with your purchase. We carefully check our products before dispatch, but if you have an issue with your order, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
DEFECTIVE OR FAULTY ITEMS
If you believe your item has a manufacturing fault or defect, please contact us as soon as possible after receiving your order.
Where possible, please include clear photographs of the issue along with your order details. This allows us to assess the problem quickly and determine the best solution.
Where a genuine manufacturing fault is confirmed, we may offer a replacement or refund.
Please note that normal wear and tear is not considered a manufacturing fault, particularly with goalkeeper gloves where latex naturally wears through use.
GOALKEEPER GLOVE RETURNS
For hygiene, performance and product protection reasons, goalkeeper gloves can only be returned for a refund or exchange if they meet all of the following conditions:
The gloves are completely unworn and unused.
The protective plastic film remains on the latex palm and has not been removed.
The gloves are returned in their original packaging and condition.
The return is made within 14 days of delivery.
IMPORTANT — DO NOT REMOVE THE PALM FILM
If you are unsure about the size, fit or style of your gloves, please do not remove the protective film from the latex palm or use the gloves.
Once the palm film has been removed or the gloves have been used, we are unable to accept them as a standard change-of-mind return.
LATEX WEAR & NATURAL DETERIORATION
Goalkeeper glove latex is a soft, high-performance material designed to provide grip.
Latex naturally begins to wear from the moment it is used.
Scuffs, marks, small tears and general deterioration of the latex can occur during training or matches and are considered normal wear and tear.
The rate of wear can vary considerably depending on factors such as:
Playing surface
Playing technique
Frequency of use
Ground contact
Weather conditions
Glove preparation
Glove care
The type and cut of glove
Normal latex wear is not a manufacturing defect and is not eligible for a refund or replacement.

We strongly recommend using a tracked postal service, as we cannot be responsible for returns that are lost or damaged while being sent back to us.

We are unable to offer refunds for:
Original delivery charges
Return postage costs
Gloves where the protective latex film has been removed
Gloves that have been worn or used
Gloves returned after the 14-day return period
Products showing normal wear and tear or latex deterioration
Items returned without their original packaging or in an unsuitable condition
DELIVERY ADDRESS ERRORS
Please check your delivery details carefully before completing your order.
If your parcel is returned to us because of an incorrect, incomplete or invalid delivery address, the original delivery charge will not be refunded.
If you would like us to resend the order, additional delivery charges will apply.
EXCHANGES
If you have ordered the wrong size or would simply prefer a different style, we can arrange an exchange provided the gloves meet our return conditions.
